Description

Recent graduated designers often feel nervous and lost when looking for a job or starting their own start-ups. It is a prevailing scene amongst young designers to perceive themselves lacking the readiness to enter the industry, creating a segregation between employers and potential employees.

  • Discover what companies look for when hiring potential condidates.

Methods

  • Client consultation

  • User interview

Problem statement

While university provides a great platform and a safe environment for students to learn and explore, breaking into the professional industry can be extremely daunting and stressful for many. How might we design a platform that helps new designers connect with organisations, companies, and network with like-minded professionals.

Opportunities

  • Building community: Provide aspiring young designers with a support system where users can ask questions, seek advice, and share their experiences. Functions such as discussion, reviews, and posts should be considered to boost user retention and foster a loyal audience.

  • Professional networking: Allowing students to meet with industry professionals will save time for both parties by providing a direct and convenient networking opportunity, eliminating the need for separate searches and connections in the future.

  • Personal portfolio: Include the ability to curate a professional portfolio to demonstrate the student’s skill sets and help young designers secure new projects and opportunities.

  • Collaboration and engagement: Design spaces of collaboration where industry professionals can easily engage and recruit students to participate in seminars, design challenges, and workshops.

Challenges

  • Unique value proposition: The social media market, which is design-oriented, is already highly saturated. The functions within the app need to be compelling and meet the specific needs of young designers.

  • User engagement: In order to build a sense of community and to create meaningful connections between individual designers and organisations, the content, features, and functionalities need to be specifically curated to maintain a high level of user retention.
